Governor signs Mass. Ave. funding into law

Funding for the Mass. Ave. project in East Arlington is included in the state’s Transportation Bond Bill, now Chapter 79 of the Acts of 2014. Governor Patrick signed the bill into law on April 18.

The project is not expressly mentioned in the appropriation.

Also in the bill are $500k for resurfacing of Pleasant St. and sidewalks and $1.5M for reconstruction of Gray St. and sidewalks. There are also appropriations for multi-use paths that would indirectly connect to the Minuteman Path, extending the network of paths into Watertown.

The 5-year, $12.8-billion law also authorizes $1.3B to extend the Green Line to Medford.

Not all funding is guaranteed, merely allowed.

Construction on the Mass. Ave. project , which will stretch over 2 construction seasons, may not begin until June, according to a story at YourArlington.com.
